OFFA and Oakville Choral will be giving $5 from each ticket to the Positive Space Network, an Oakville organization that  builds community and creates safer spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ youth ages 6-24 in Halton Region

This event will begin with a performance by Oakville Choral, followed by a screening of the documentary Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine.

Oakville Choral performs Stars, a movement from Considering Matthew Shepard by American composer, Craig Hella Johnson. Considering Matthew Shepard is a concert-length work inspired by the life and death of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard. It was composed on the 20th anniversary of his kidnapping and murder at the hands of violent homophobes in Wyoming in 1998. In this movement, the music evokes a vision of the stars blinking in the vast Wyoming sky, watching Matthew’s suffering but unable to help. The spoken words are those of Matthew Shepard’s father in his statement to the court during the trial of those accused of his son’s murder. Oakville Choral is a community choir in Oakville, Ontario and this performance is a feature of their 2020/2021 season of virtual rehearsals.
