Where the Universe Sings

Lawren Harris is an artist of international stature, a giant of Canadian culture, a founder of the Group of Seven and leader in the emergence of Canada’s most famous school of painting. Though Harris’ artistic journey was astonishing, his private life was not always easy. Where The Universe Sings explores Lawren Harris, the man and the artist. Archival photographs, rare film footage, hundreds of letters, his own correspondence and that of his family, friends and colleagues, provide a glimpse into his day-to-day life and relationships. The viewer is taken to stunning locations across Canada that inspired Harris – Algoma, Lake Superior, the Maritimes, and the Rockies.

A Q&A with the director Nancy Lang and will follow the film. Lorraine Matheson, Tours and Interpretation Coordinator for the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, will be present to discuss the work of Lawren Harris and the current Lawren Harris exhibition.
